Privacy policy
Last updated: 6 October 2026. Applies to the Android app Selfwright
(com.incrementalexercise.game), this website and Selfwright's social media accounts.
Short version: Selfwright doesn't collect, send or sell anything. The app has no internet access, no account, no ads and no analytics. Everything it knows about you stays on your phone.
What the app uses, and why
| What | Why | Where it goes |
|---|---|---|
| Camera | Counting and checking your reps, the weekly fitness tests, the optional body-proportion scan, and scanning challenge QR codes. | Nowhere. Each frame is analysed in the phone's memory and discarded. No photo or video is ever saved, logged or sent. Camera screens block screenshots and screen recording. |
| Microphone (optional) | Hands-free voice commands on the camera screens ("start", "stop", "next", "again", exercise names). You can turn them off with the mic button or in Office → Settings. | Nowhere. Speech is recognised by your phone's own on-device speech recogniser (the app never uses an online one); the app only acts on the words and keeps no audio or text. |
| Physical activity (step counter) | Counting your walking steps, which power the game's Momentum (the wind that sails your ships). | Only the step count is stored, on your phone. |
| Notifications | Optional reminders (Momentum running low, check-in due, today's plan). Made on your phone; you can turn them off in the app. To deliver them on time the app sets a local alarm with Android's own alarm service; no server is involved. | Nowhere. |
| Pictures you choose | Only if you tap "From a picture" to read a friend's challenge QR code. | The chosen picture is read once in memory to find the code and never stored. The app can't see your other pictures. |
The app does not request the internet permission, so it has no technical way to send data anywhere.
What is stored on your phone
Only numbers: your game progress, workout totals, fitness test results and personal bests, your training profile answers, settings, and (if you use the body scan) proportion ratios such as waist-to-height. Never images. A local crash log (technical error text, no personal or camera data) is kept only so you can choose to send it with "Send feedback".
Backups
If Android's own backup is turned on for your phone (Settings → Google → Backup), Android may copy the app's save file (the numbers above, not the crash log) to your own Google account, so your progress comes back on a new phone. On Android 9+ with a screen lock this backup is end-to-end encrypted. This is done by Android, not by the app, and the developer can't access it. You can turn it off in your phone's settings.
"Export save" in the app writes the save file only where you choose. It contains your check-in results and body-scan ratios, so keep it somewhere private.
Sharing
Nothing is shared unless you tap Share. Share cards are images the app draws from your stats (never camera images and never body measurements); you see the card before sharing and choose the app to share with. Challenge codes contain only an exercise, a score and your two-letter initials. "Send feedback" opens your email or messaging app with a message you can read and edit first.
Children
Selfwright is not directed at children under 13.
Your choices
- Delete everything: Office → Settings → Reset all progress, or uninstall the app.
- Revoke camera, microphone, activity or notification access at any time in Android settings.
- Turn off Android backup in your phone's settings.
Our social media accounts and tools
This section covers Selfwright's own accounts on Bluesky, X, Instagram, TikTok, YouTube and Reddit, and the tools we use to run them. It does not change anything above: the app itself still sends nothing anywhere.
- What we post. Our own text, images and videos, on our own accounts. Some posts and replies are drafted with automated tools, including an AI writing assistant (Claude, by Anthropic), and every one is checked by rules and a second review before it is published.
- What we read and keep. When you mention one of our accounts, comment on our posts, or review the app on Google Play, we keep the public text, your public username and the post or review ID, so that we can reply. We keep these for up to 90 days and then delete them. We keep only totals (likes, views, replies) after that.
- Who processes it. These items are stored on a server we control. To draft a reply, the text of the message we are replying to may be sent to Anthropic, which processes it on our behalf. We never sell this information, never use it for advertising, and never combine it with anything from the app.
- Platform access. We use the TikTok, YouTube, Instagram, X, Bluesky and Reddit APIs only to publish to our own accounts and to read comments and mentions addressed to us. We never access your account, contacts, messages or anything that isn't public.
- Your choices. To have something you wrote removed from our records sooner, or to ask what we hold about you, email us (below).
